After five years of hard work, the team at SEA has achieved a major milestone.

We are excited and honoured to announce that the School of Explorative Architecture has been officially recognized as a Higher Educational Institution by the South African Department of Higher Education and Training. Our PHEI registration number 2021/HE08/002

In addition, we have received verification from SAQA that our Bachelors of Architectural Studies (BAS) has been confirmed on the national qualifications framework. This means, our BAS programme was audited and is now officially recognized.

We have exciting news! Our Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) degree has received conditional accreditation from the Council on Higher Education (CHE)! We are working on meeting the minor conditions and should have our BAS degree registered with SAQA shortly.

We have also made a submission to the Department of Higher Education and Training for the approval of SEA as a Private Higher Education Institution. In order to get this approval we need to find SEA a home and start providing the equipment that goes with teaching and learning an architectural degree. The other exciting news that will help in this regard is that SEA has been granted Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) status with the South African Revenue Services, which means we can attract tax-deductible donations which will help in setting up facilities and premises – our vision for South Africa’s first independent non-profit school of architecture is becoming tantalizingly real!

You might have noticed our projected start date has changed to January 2021. Well, 2021, as they say, is hindsight – in retrospect we might have predicted that these bureaucratic processes can take an unimagined long time. But we remain optimistic and eternally enthusiastic to get our school of architecture fully operational in 2021 such that we might bring a fantastic and inspiring teaching and learning environment for architectural studies to Cape Town.

We bring you a fresh new look to our site in preparation for the future.

The new site includes the following updates:

Login:

  • An “academic portal” (sea port) that will contain the latest curriculum, course outlines, events, and more.
  • Email server for students, staff and faculty.
  • Administration interface for portfolios and student blogs.

Resources:

  • We have begun to add design resources for the SEA identity such as logos.
  • We will be adding software resources shortly.

People:

  • A new section for students, staff and faculty has been added.

News:

  • We now have a dedicated news section where we will be posting the latest news from the SEA community.
