The City of Everyone: Tourism and public open - space networks with Don Albert

Join Don Albert’s open lecture at SEA on tourism projects by SOUND SPACE DESIGN, including the new Zip Zap Circus to be built at Artscape, Cape Town.

After the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Don Albert relocated his firm from Cape Town to Singapore to focus on tourism, master planning, and hospitality and opened his own boutique hotel in Bali.

Navigating an exploding tech-driven tourism landscape, and then a pandemic, SOUND SPACE DESIGN has been engaged in master planning and post-pandemic revival projects around the world, which brought Don full circle back to one of the biggest destinations of them all, Cape Town.

With reference to built work, and his ongoing research into tourist towns, Don will discuss the challenges of over-tourism, ‘localism’, the critical importance of public open space networks, and the role that hospitality can play as custodians of vital public spaces.
