
Anja Zajaczkowska-Smuts
Academic Fellow : Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Anja Zajaczkowska-Smuts completed her degree in architecture at Cape Town University in 2007. She then worked for Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects (SAOTA) on residential design projects throughout South Africa. In 2011 she moved to New York city where she worked for Culbert Architects on numerous museum and exhibition projects. Design work took her to Boston where she worked for the award-winning Moshe Safdie Architects on the Raffles City Chonqing project over 3 years.
In 2015 her focus shifted to health care. Since then, she has worked with TRO, and now SmithGroup Architects, specializing on healthcare architecture. She has a strong foundation and understanding of the spaces which facilitate medical procedure and assembly, such as endoscopy suites and pharmaceutical labs.
Anja balances immense technical acumen with an empathetic and thoughtful design approach. Known for her intricate knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems, she leads the development of SmithGroup Architects BIM workflows and standards. This knowledge will arm students with the tools for effective and industry-leading documentation, coordination, and team communications.
